Newcastle United vs Brentford tips: Busy Bees to provide tricky test for Toon

Robbie Savage expects another resilient performance from Brentford when they face Newcastle United at St James' Park in the Premier League.

Can Newcastle bounce back? Before the International break, we know they got lots of goals scored against them against Brighton and Liverpool, with 10 men, came back from 1-0 down at St James' Park to win 2-1.

So they do need to bounce back, it's a European week in the Champions League. What a week it is going to be for these Newcastle United fans.

Brentford are unbeaten in five this season and I think they'll go there and get something, in transition on the counterattack as I think Newcastle will have a lot on the ball.

But I think Brentford will get a goal and I'm going to go with a 1-1 draw.

Robbie’s tip: Newcastle 1-1 Brentford

Newcastle vs Brentford team news

Newcastle will be hoping Sven Botman has recovered from the ankle injury that saw him miss out on the defeat to Brighton. New signing Sandro Tonali may also be ready to return.

Elliot Anderson has recovered from a knock and could also be included in the matchday squad. Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier are all fit to feature after international duty.

Joe Willock, Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth are all expected to miss out again.

Visitors Brentford will be without the services of Ivan Toney for the remainder of the year, allowing Yoane Wissa, Kevin Schade and top-scorer Bryan Mbuemo to continue in attack.

Josh Dasilva and Shandon Baptiste will miss out due to injury but Mikkel Damsgaard may have recovered from a minor groin injury.

Key stats

- Newcastle are unbeaten in eight meetings with Brentford dating back to 1992, winning seven and drawing one.

- Newcastle have averaged three goals per game in those meetings with their most emphatic win, 5-1, coming at St James Park last season.

- Brentford are currently unbeaten but they’ve dropped more points from winning positions than any other Premier League team this season.

- Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo (4) is the joint-second top-scorer in the Premier League after Erling Haaland (6).

Other suggested bets

If Eddie Howe is able to reinstate Sven Botman in the heart of his defence then that could help swing things Newcastle's way.

The Toon don’t yet have the strength in depth to deal with injuries to key players but with a preferred XI available, they’ll fancy their chances of beating Brentford.

Their fantastic record against the Bees includes a 5-1 win, a 3-1 win and a 3-3 draw in their last three meetings at St James Park, so goals could also be on the cards.

That said, United have conceded at least one goal in 14 of their previous 15 Premier League matches and Brentford are always dangerous on the counter.

It’s worth noting that the Bees have scored 20 times in 15 Premier League matches, a run which includes netting at least twice against Tottenham, Chelsea, Brighton and Man City.
