Qatar Masters tips and picks: Robert MacIntyre can outclass the field

On to the desert swing of the current season as the DP World Tour heads towards a conclusion at the Qatar Masters, and golf tipster Martin Colwell is on the hunt for some value.

We head back to Doha golf club, a par 72 and 7,466 yards in length. The course is an exposed layout where wind can be a factor. The course favours longer hitters and those golfers who can scramble well around the greens.

Ewen Ferguson is the defending champions and the bookies have this as a wide-open contest.

Jordan Smith, Thorbjorn Olesen and Aaron Rai lead the favourite markets at around 20/1, of the three I prefer Rai as a potential winner.

The short jump to 22/1, where we find Alexander Bjork and Rasmus Hojgaard. Both of these guys seem a bit off their best at present.

28/1 Bar – where we find Robert MacIntyre and the defending champion, Ferguson.

MacIntyre has been in OK form when playing since the Ryder Cup.

He has decent desert form and is good on links type courses. He could outclass this field at his best, while Ferguson is in decent form and can put up a good defence of his title.

Suggested bet: Robert MacIntyre each-way in the Qatar Masters

Other golfers to consider

There are two golfers at 33/1 who are in top form, Matthieu Pavon and Ryo Hisatsune. Pavon won two weeks ago and contented last week. Hisatsune has been placed in his last two tournaments.

I like the improving Kiwi, Daniel Hiller at 50/1. He is beginning to contend on this tour and should be suited by this course type.

Matthew Jordan is 66/1, and was tied fifth here last year. Looking at his form in the desert, he has been a regular top twenty finisher.

Marcus Armytage was runner up in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship recently.

Back with his old coach and seeking psychological support as well. Placed here last year. 80/1 looks to provide each way value this week.

Also, at 80/1 I like the American Chase Hanna. Fourth last week in Spain and second here last March.

And finally, an old favourite who can win or easily miss the cut. Rafa Cabrero Bello is 100/1. But RCB has good form in the Middle East, including a win some years ago.

Selections:

Robert MacIntyre each-way
Daniel Hiller each-way
Rafa Cabrero Bello each-way
