Lucas Glover admits division in US Ryder Cup team dressing room broke his heart

After narrowly missing out on selection for the US Ryder Cup team, Lucas Glover admits it was very disappointing to see the team divided over financial issues.

Glover made a very strong case for selection after winning back-to-back PGA Tour events at the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St Jude Championship just weeks before Zach Johnson was to name his team.

However, the 43-year-old's career renaissance was not enough to see him earn a place in the side, which went on to suffer a bitter 16.5-11.5 defeat against Luke Donald's Europeans in Rome.

But perhaps even more damaging than their performances on the field were the reports that behind the scenes the players had become divided over the fact that they were not being paid for participating, with some even going so far as to engage in forms of silent protest.

US players are paid for participating in the Presidents Cup when they take on the International team, but not when they play in the Ryder Cup.

Patrick Cantlay appeared to be the main source of the friction, even though those reports were denied by the US Team, but that didn't stop Glover from weighing in and seemingly confirming at least some of the rumours.

"It broke my heart the week after to hear how splintered the [locker] room was," he said.

"Things about money, and all the other different things, that is not at all what the Ryder Cup stands for.

"Like what going on what I have been read and what I have been told. I have talked to some people that were there and in the fight and it breaks my heart to hear that. That is not what it is about."

Glover said he wished he could "have brought some different things to the table" in Rome.

"I would have loved to have been there," he added.
