Jack Catterall vs Jorge Linares: Full card, tips and preview as El Gato plots world title route

Jack Catterall will be looking to force himself into the world title picture when he takes on Jorge Linares this Saturday night at the M&S Bank Arena, in Liverpool.

Catterall challenged Josh Taylor for the undisputed super-lightweight crown in February 2022, though came up short in a controversial split decision.

El Gato bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Darragh Foley last May and the 30-year-old will be looking to position himself for another title shot when he takes on Linares.

Speaking of the Venezuelan don’t let his recent record fool you. Linares may be in the midst of a three-fight losing run, though he does boast an excellent record against British opponents.

The 38-year-old has recorded wins over Luke Campbell, Anthony Crolla and Kevin Mitchell during his 55-fight professional career.

Linares hasn’t tasted victory since his knockout win over Carlos Morales in February 2020. Since then, the Venezuelan suffered three straight defeats against Devin Haney, Zaur Abdullaev and, most recently, Zhora Hamazaryan.

El Nino admitted during the build-up to this fight that he did come close to retirement. However, linking up with former trainer Ismael Salas has sparked new life into the old warrior.

Despite this, our betting recommendation is to back Catterall. The Englishman is on a mission to reach boxing superstardom and a 38-year-old Linares is not the man who will stop him.

While the Venezuelan is expected to put on a valiant display, we’re backing Catterall to pick up a unanimous decision.
