West Ham's opponents Olympiacos send laser, flares and firecrackers warning to fans ahead of match
Olympiacos have issued a warning to their supporters against throwing missiles and using laser pointers ahead of their Europa League clash with West Ham.
Tensions are high in Athens after Olympiacos’ league match with rivals Panathinaikos on Sunday had to be abandoned after an opposition player was hit by a firecracker.
There have also been incidents in Greece where fans have targeted opposing players with laser pens, such as during last week’s international against the Netherlands.
A club statement read: “Our side is ready to face West Ham on Thursday evening. A match to celebrate against the UEFA Europa Conference League winner. The Karaiskakis Stadium shall be packed once more.
“In this great evening of football, we will all have to be very careful to any conduct that might hurt our side.
“Given we have been charged already and might face a ban, we have to protect our stadium so as not to deny any fan the opportunity to watch Olympiacos’ next European fixtures.
“Use of laser pointers, smoke flares, firecrackers and throwing objects, along with blocking staircases and entry points might lead to our stadium being banned.
“Protect our team and help our players by means of your loud voice so we may celebrate victory.
“It is Olympiacos and their amazing supporters entering the pitch. And in there, we all fight together!”
