England vs Italy tips and predictions: Three Lions to bag Euro 2024 spot at expense of ex champions

Planet Sport Bet ambassador Robbie Savage expects the Three Lions to officially secure qualification for Euro 2024 with a narrow victory over defending champions Italy.

England have only beaten Italy once in their last seven meetings and that was back in Naples in March.

England’s qualifying record is quite remarkable. They’ve only lost one of their last 56 qualifying matches either in the Euros or the World Cup – that’s quite remarkable.

With this game being at home, I think England will win it. Harry Kane to score in a 2-1 England win.

Team news

With the exception of Bukayo Saka’s withdrawal, England boss Gareth Southgate has the full squad at his disposal for their latest qualifying outing.

The Three Lions are expected to line-up a lot differently to their friendly with Australia as Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Jordan Pickford and Kyle Walker are all expected to start.

Italy, on the other hand, will be without Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo who have both faced allegations of gambling, causing them to withdraw from camp.

Luciano Spalletti will also have to plan around the injured trio of Mattia Zaccagni, Ivan Provedel and Federico Chiesa.

Key stats

- England have won just one of their last seven meetings with Italy

- Italy are unbeaten in four competitive games, winning three of them

- England have lost just one of their last 56 Euro and World Cup qualifying fixtures

- Italy have scored 10 goals across their last four games

England could tick a couple of important boxes this Tuesday night when they host Italy at Wembley Stadium.

As well as securing their ticket to Euro 2024, the Three Lions will be looking to bank back-to-back wins against the Italians for the first time since 1949.

Southgate’s men are without defeat since the World Cup, winning six of seven games.

In their last outing, a much-changed England outfit picked up a slender 1-0 victory over Australia at Wembley.

Italy, on the other hand, boosted their Euro 2024 qualification hopes courtesy of a 4-0 win against Malta.

As things stand, the Italians are second in the group – level on points with third-placed Ukraine.

Matches between England and Italy are rarely goal fests, though we are expecting both teams to get on the scoresheet on this occasion.

Engand have conceded only one goal before half-time since the World Cup. The Three Lions have also scored six second-half goals in their last four outings.

With that in mind, we’re backing the second half to produce most of the goals.

Second half to produce most goals
